Konami's longest running series begins here. You play Simon Belmont. A vampire hunter with a whip (that upgrades to a morning star). At the core, this is a basic side-scrolling platformer. But, its adds a dark style and keeps you interested even through some very very difficult levels. This game really needed a save game or password feature. I never could sit down long enough to play through the entire game. I really hated the flying medusa heads the most. They would knock you into bottemless pits for instant death. WIth the limited number of lives you get, that really stinks.
